Help you might be entitled to
Some households can get a broken boiler repaired or replaced for free, a free gas safety check, or money off their heating bills. We checked each scheme on the official websites on 7 November 2026. We're a private referral service, not part of any council or government scheme.
Free boiler repair or replacement
The LEAP boiler scheme helps homeowners on a low income whose gas boiler has stopped working, where someone at home is 65 or over, or under 5. It works by referral, so ask Newcastle City Council's energy team or call LEAP free on 0800 060 7567.

Your gas supplier may check your gas appliances for free if you own your home, get a means-tested benefit, and either live with a child under 5, or are disabled, chronically ill or of State Pension age and live alone or with others who are.

Questions people ask
Can't see your question? Ring 07380 307279 or ask for a call back.
Is this service free to use?
Yes. You don't pay us anything. The engineer we pass your job to gives you their price, and you only pay them if you go ahead.
Who will actually do the work?
An independent, Gas Safe registered engineer who covers your area. You can check any engineer's Gas Safe ID on the Gas Safe Register website before they start work.
How fast will someone call me?
Usually within the hour during working hours. For urgent jobs, ringing us is the quickest way to get through.
Do you share my details with lots of companies?
No. Your enquiry goes to one local engineer, not a list of firms.
Can I get a free boiler or a grant?
Some households can. Homeowners on a low income whose gas boiler has stopped working, with someone at home aged 65 or over or under 5, may get it repaired or replaced through the LEAP boiler scheme. There are also grants for insulation and heat pumps, a free yearly gas safety check for some people, and £150 off your electricity bill if you get certain benefits. Our guide to free help with boilers and heating lists them all, with links to apply.
I can smell gas. What should I do?
Don't use us. Call the National Gas Emergency number on 0800 111 999 straight away, open windows, don't use switches or flames, and leave the property if you feel unwell.
