What to expect
Not every heating fault is in the boiler. If the boiler fires up but the radiators stay cold, the pump or a motorised valve has often failed. If only some radiators are cold, it's more likely a stuck valve, trapped air or sludge. Our guide to cold radiators explains what you can check yourself.
Controls fail too. A room thermostat, timer or wireless receiver that stops asking for heat can look just like a broken boiler, and is often a cheaper fix. The engineer finds which part has gone and tells you the price before fitting a new one.
Typical cost in Newcastle: £150 to £600. Your engineer confirms the price before starting.

Central heating repair: common questions
Can't see your question? Ring 07380 307279 or ask for a call back.
My boiler's on but the radiators are cold. Why?
If the boiler lights but no heat reaches the radiators, the pump or a motorised valve has often failed, or there's an airlock. If you have hot water but no heating, a stuck diverter or motorised valve is a common cause. An engineer can test each part to find the one that's failed.
How much does it cost to replace a central heating pump?
Typically £250 to £450 fitted, depending on the pump and how easy it is to get to. A good engineer checks it really is the pump first, as a stuck one can sometimes be freed.
What does a leaking radiator valve cost to fix?
Replacing a radiator valve typically costs £100 to £200. A leak you can't see, under a floor or in a wall, has to be traced first, so it costs more: typically £150 to £600 in all.
Does a heating repair need a Gas Safe engineer?
Not always. Pumps, valves, radiators and controls outside the boiler aren't gas work, so a heating engineer or plumber can fix them. Anything inside the boiler or on its gas supply must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Every engineer we pass work to is Gas Safe registered, so they can do both.
